Why Mercedes Reviews Every LabsFive Report

Before a single LabsFive report or blog article reaches a reader, it passes through Mercedes's review. Her role is to make sure that every explanation of a biomarker, every reference range, and every clinical caveat holds up to real laboratory practice — not just to what reads well.

"People deserve to understand their lab results the same way a clinician would explain them — accurately, and without losing the nuance that actually matters."

This is what LabsFive means when it says content is "medically reviewed": a named, credentialed clinical laboratory specialist stands behind it, not an anonymous byline.

Academic Background & Scientific Research

Mercedes is a graduate of the Universidad Autónoma de Chihuahua (UACH — Autonomous University of Chihuahua), where she earned her bachelor's degree as a Chemist, Bacteriologist and Parasitologist along with her corresponding professional license.

In 1996, she completed her undergraduate thesis at the Faculty of Medicine's Cell Biology and Electron Microscopy Laboratory, under the direction of Dr. Francisco Javier Solín Martínez. For roughly two years she worked in molecular biology, contributing to research on the nuclear matrix of Entamoeba histolytica. That work involved hands-on transmission electron microscopy (TEM), strengthening her foundation in cellular biology, microscopy, and the analysis of cellular structures — a scientific rigor she later carried into her specialty in diagnostic hematology.

22 Years of Clinical Laboratory Practice

Across her career, Mercedes has built hands-on experience in nearly every corner of clinical diagnostics, including:

That breadth taught her that a lab result rarely stands on its own: it has to be read inside a patient's full clinical picture — their symptoms, history, and other relevant medical information — to mean anything reliable. That principle now shapes how she reviews every LabsFive report.

Occupational Health Expertise

Mercedes also brings deep experience in occupational health, running and managing diagnostic studies for workers and businesses. Through her entrepreneurial career she has delivered diagnostic services for the workplace, using laboratory studies and other diagnostic tools to support the prevention, monitoring, and protection of employee health — work that gave her a close understanding of what companies actually need from reliable diagnostic information.

Entrepreneurial Track Record

For 22 years, Mercedes has run her own medical diagnostics business in Chihuahua, Mexico, building and growing diagnostic services that combine science, technology, quality, process, and human care. That path put her in close, ongoing contact with patients, physicians, companies, and fellow health professionals — giving her a rare, dual vantage point on both what a diagnosis requires technically and why communicating it clearly, responsibly, and accessibly matters just as much.

Health Education & Outreach

Mercedes created and hosts Salud y Ciencia Médica ("Health & Medical Science"), a Spanish-language podcast dedicated to sharing knowledge on health, science, and medical diagnostics. She has also complemented her scientific training with courses and certifications in leadership, personal development, quality, process improvement, innovation, and business management.

Her Vision on Health

Mercedes is deeply invested in personal development, health, family, and human wellbeing — approached, above all, from a scientific and technological perspective. She believes scientific knowledge and modern technology can be extraordinary tools for helping people better understand their own health information and take a more active, informed role in caring for themselves.

That belief is what brought her to LabsFive: helping people understand their lab results in general terms, learn what different parameters mean, and walk into conversations with their healthcare providers better informed.

Commitment to Responsible Information

The information Mercedes reviews for this platform is educational and informational in purpose. Properly interpreting lab results requires clinical history, symptoms, medications, age, sex, and other individual factors — which is why LabsFive's content is never meant to replace a medical consultation, establish a diagnosis, or indicate a treatment.

Her purpose is for technology and scientific knowledge to help people understand their health information, ask better questions, and take part in their care more knowledgeably — always alongside a medical professional. Read our full Medical Disclaimer.
